Dogs are wonderful listeners! Kids are invited to bring their favorite book or choose one from the library shelves, then build reading skills and confidence by reading aloud to one of our therapy dogs. Research shows that children who are learning to read feel more relaxed and less self-conscious when reading to animals. READ to ROVER aims to improve reading skills, nurture a lifelong love of reading, and help children bond with animals. We encourage parents, grandparents and sitters to bring your kids and watch them enjoy reading with our great dogs.

The Jefferson County Public Library Summer READ to ROVER program is held every Friday, starting June 28 through August 9, from 11 am to noon. Call 360-385-6544 to register and reserve a seat to read with a dog. The library is located at Ness Corner Road and Cedar Avenue in Port Hadlock.

The Port Townsend Public Library at 1220 Lawrence Street holds READ to ROVER sessions for children ages 5 – 11 on the 4th Thursday of each month (June 27, July 25, and August 22) from 1 – 2 pm. You can just drop in – no need to reserve a space.
